Huashan Mountain, Fu Baoshi
This painting is one of the most influential mountain-and-water works in the last days of Fu Baoshi, a celebrated painter, art historian, art educator and master of seal cutting.
In 1960, Fu led a team of painters from Jiangsu Traditional Chinese Painting Institute to the Huashan Mountain. He didn't reach the top for health reasons, but instead enjoyed the magnificent view from the foot of the mountain.
The splendor of the mountain is finely presented: the towering mountain peaks look as if they might extend over the painting's boundary, wisps of smoke linger around the mountains, and trees and houses are delicately portrayed. [Photo provided to chinadaily.com.cn]
