An exhibition of photos capturing the life of Gabriel Garcia Marquez opened in Beijing on Aug 21, in the lead up to the Beijing International Book Fair 2014, which opens on Aug 27.
The Beijing Cervantes Institute and the Embassy of Colombia are hosting the photography displaying the life of the late Nobel Prize winner for literature, paying tribute to the author of One Hundred Years of Solitude.
The exhibition uses photos taken by the author’s family and followers to reflect the important moments in the life of Garcia Marquez, nicknamed Gabo.
Each picture is captioned in both Spanish and Chinese.
“Gabo has been loved by people in the Spanish-language world and Chinese people so the show is also a cultural bridge between the two cultures,” said Luis J Roa C, minister counselor of the Embassy of Colombia in China, at the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition on Aug 21.
Garcia Marquez died on April 17 in Mexico City, at the age of 87. He was among the most important representatives of Spanish literature. The exhibition is an intimate look at the man as seen by his friends and family.
The exhibition will continue until Dec 15 at the Cervantes Institute, the Spanish cultural center in Beijing. It is free and open to all.
