Along the River During the Qingming Festival is the best-known scroll painting in Chinese art history painted by 11th-century painter Zhang Zeduan. The scroll, measuring 5.29m by 0.24m, depicts the daily lives of people from all walks of life in Bianjing (today's Kaifeng city in Henan province) in the Song Dynasty (960-1297), such as innkeepers, peasants and peddlers.

"It is one of the most precious works in Chinese art history. What if someone could reproduce it three-dimensionally!" Feng told local media Hunan Daily that the idea came to his mind all of a sudden while he was traveling on a train in 2004. Later he decided to make the model himself.
