Chairman Mao's Poetry of Shaoshan, a color ink work painted by modern master Fu Baoshi (1904-65) a year before his death, will be auctioned in Shanghai on Dec 22.

Inspired by Shaoshan Mountain in Mao Zedong's native Hunan province, the painting shows a majestic scene in which Fu layered out ranges of trees with thick ink and paddy fields with light green.

The painting is from a private Singaporean collection, and will go under the hammer at an inaugural sale by Poly Huayi Auction, a Shanghai-based joint establishment of Beijing's Poly Auction and entertainment company Huayi Brothers Media.
