On Thursday Hunan embroidery and porcelain auction was held at Hong Kong's Renaissance Harbor View Hotel. The turnover of this auction accounted for RMB26 million, with a turnover rate of 71%, introduced by auctioneer Lan Chen from Poly Auction Hong Kong.
The highest bid was a set of five underglaze color porcelain bowls, which was made exclusively for Chairman Mao in 1974 in Liling, Hunan. Red plum blossom, red chrysanthemums, red Chinese rose, red hibiscus flowers and blue chrysanthemums have been glazed on those bowls respectively, and only 40 sets was made at that time. The "Chairman Mao" porcelain set was auctioned for RMB8 million.
The primary collector of this set Luo Yuqi said that the strike price was lower than his expectation. But he was gratified that more people knew about Hunan porcelain through this auction. The highest strike price of this auction is King of Mountain Animals, a Hunan embroidery work by master Li Yan, which was dealt at RMB2.2 million.
