Shanghai-Kunming Passenger Railway Co, Ltd. Hunan Subsidiary revealed that the start of Wulingshan Tunnel No. 1 project has been moved from December to September. The 9.15 km-tunnel is the largest bottleneck project of Qianjiang-Zhangjiajie-Changde Railway. The new railway is expected to curtail the journey between Zhangjiajie and Changsha to one hour. The state-level I railway covers 339 km involving a total investment of 37.6 billion yuan. This double track railway is scheduled to be completed in 5.5 years with a design speed of more than 200 km per hour. The railway goes through 12 towns and townships in three counties across Zhangjiajie, with a traffic mileage of 104 kilometters. 11.5 billion yuan will be spent on Zhangjiajie section, especially on four railway stops at western Zhangjiajie, Sangzhi, Jiaoziya and Hejia Village, 10 large railway bridges such as 4.89-km Lishui River Bridge and 21 tunnels including Wulingshan Tunnel No.1. The new line will shorten the journey from Zhangjiajie to Changsha, Wuhan, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing to 1 hour, 2.5 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours and 7 hours respectively.
