The city of Changsha, capital of Hunan province is working up plans to build itself into a national water ecology city, by 2016, Changsha Evening News has reported, noting that, by the first quarter of 2015, it expects to complete 30,000 water projects, costing 3 billion yuan ($489 million).
Changsha is one of 45 cities the Water Resources Ministry chose as pilots, in July 2013, to work on water ecology in a period lasting from 2014 to 2016. For the next phase, the city will make water conservation a major focus, working to ensure drinking water safety, an ecological landscape, and more effective use of water resources.
At a meeting on water ecology and civilization, on Sept 23, Changsha Mayor Hu Henghua said that city departments need to devote themselves to the construction work with an innovative spirit and pragmatic approach to build Changsha into a place where water, an island, and the city add radiance and beauty to each other.
