Changsha Mayor Hu Henghua conducted an investigation of the city's education undertakings, and provided guiding proposals to the development of Changsha University and Changsha education in general on Dec 12. Vice Mayor Xia Jianping attended the activity.

Hu and his team inspected the Changsha Automotive Technical School in Changsha Vocational Education Base, the library in the Base, and the Changsha University, and then listened to the reports of Changsha municipal education bureau and Changsha University.

As of December, 2014, Changsha has 2,681 schools of all types and at all levels, around 1.75 million students, and 130,000 teaching and administrative staff members.

At present, all the districts, counties and county-level cities in Changsha have passed the national acceptance inspection of "compulsory education balanced counties". Five of them were rated as the nation's first batch of "advanced districts (counties) on education". Changsha residents' degree of satisfaction to local basic education public service ranked the fourth place among the major cities in the country.

Yang Xiaoyun, the president of Changsha University, said that the university has 15 schools and departments, 38 undergraduate majors, and cultivated 15,200 undergraduates in the past five years, more than half of them have found a job in Changsha. 

Hu said that the city will guarantee the educational input and place compulsory education in an important position during the urban planning and construction.

He suggested that Changsha vocational education should be centered on the building of Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan Innovative Demonstration Zone and strive to provide personnel services to the transformative and innovative development of Changsha.

Changsha University should attach importance to its orientation, said Hu, and by combining with the urban development orientation of Changsha, build itself into a local university with distinct characteristics.
