Zhang Shuofu, the vice governor of Hunan province, praised the achievements made by Changsha county in constructed wetlands during an inspection in the county on Jan 29, 2015.
Zhang Qinghong, the county's deputy Party chief, and Zou Chunlin, the deputy county mayor, attended the inspection.
The county has opened 76 wetlands and 12 ecological zones so far, covering a total area of more than 500 mus (33.33 hectares). Meanwhile, a large-scale ecological wetland alongside the Malin River is under planning.
A principal of the county's animal farming and aquatic bureau said that they plan to introduce more evergreen species to the wetlands, making them an eye-catching landscape to help with the county's pollution control work.
The wetlands have made a significant role in local water pollution treatments by absorbing and purifying surrounded sewage.
A constructed wetland is a man-made wetland created to fight deterioration and shrinking of natural habitat and wildlife. They also help regain areas lost to development and treat ecologically harmful urban issues such as wastewater or sewage problems.
