An international seminar on Poyang Lake's ecological security was held in Jiangxi Normal University on August 27.
The seminar was jointly hosted by the university's national key lab for Poyang Lake wetland and drainage basin studies, its geography and environment institute, and the Jiangxi collaborative innovation center for major ecological security problems.
More than 20 experts spoke at the seminar, including Sun Jiulin, an academician from the geographical science and resource research institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Gong Jianya, an academician from Wuhan University, and Chen Fahu, an academician from Lanzhou University.
Other speakers were from the Ministry of Science and Technology, Strasbourg University, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the University of Michigan. Mei Guoping, principal of Jiangxi Normal University, Sun Jiulin, and Wang Yeqiao, director of the key lab, spoke at the opening ceremony. More than 120 chief scientists were present.
Mei introduced the university's history and its reform achievements over the years, and described its role as the key lab of the Ministry of Education for Poyang Lake wetlands and drainage basin studies. He welcomed the guests, hoping they would further their understanding of the university's studies of the lake. He also looked forward to their offering guidance and assistance for the university's future development.
