Feng, Xing wins ensure China finishes No. 1 on track

MACAU (AP) _ It took Feng Yun all of 13.09 seconds Friday to ensure China held off Japan for No. 1 ranking in track and field at the East Asian Games.

Feng won the women's 100-meter hurdles, then Olympic gold medalist Xing Huina won the women's 5,000 meters and Zhang Qi won the shot put as China swept the first three track finals.

Going into the last day of athletics, containing eight finals, China led Japan 21-14 in the track and field gold-medal standings.

China dominated the first six days of the Games, collecting 65 more gold medals across all sports than second-place Japan.

But the Japanese had high hopes of finishing on top in the marquee sport in Macau. That mathematical chance was erased when Feng edged out teammate Su Yiping and Japan's Kumiko Ikeda in the hurdles.

Yuki Makamura won the men's 5,000 in 14:05.77 from Japanese teammate Tomohiro Seto and South Korea's Kim Deok-hyeon won the men's triple jump at 16.79 meters to interrupt China's winning sequence on the track.
