But China's lapse Thursday had been short lived, the medal haul reignited
with seven wins in eight swimming finals in the evening program.
Swimming continues later Friday with eight finals. China leads the swimming
standings with 13 golds to Japan's four.
Japan and China faced off in a women's basketball semifinal later Friday,
while unbeaten Taiwan was against South Korea less than 24 hours after a
five-point win in a preliminary match between the two teams.
Men's basketball preliminaries finish Friday. China already has secured top
place for the semifinals with six consecutive wins.
On Saturday, North and South Korea meet in a soccer semifinal here, the first
major head-to-head contest since both nations agreed to form a single team for
the 2006 Asian Games and the 2008 Olympics.
