The former soccer star - who retired last year after a spell at French club Paris Saint-Germain - is said to be in talks with a number of possible investors, including Hong Kong-based Li & Fung, to create a line of casual ready-to-wear garments, according to WWD.
The 38-year-old sportsman could follow in the footsteps of his wife Victoria Beckham, with whom he has four children, 15-year-old Brooklyn, 11-year-old Romeo, nine-year-old Cruz and two-year-old daughter Harper, to become a fully-fledged fashion designer if he expands on his current portfolio.
David has previously designed collections for popular sports brand Adidas and for Swedish high-street chain H&M, as well as appearing in advertising campaigns for Emporio Armani, Breitling for Bentley and Belstaff.
Not wanting to turn his back on his past as a world class footballer, the father-of-four is preparing to launch his own Major League Soccer (MLS) team in Miami, Florida, but rather than buying a property he is said to be looking to rent an apartment in the city so his family can continue to split their time between New York and London.
A source said previously: "[Victoria] has not been down here [Miami] with him in months. She's concentrating on her fashion business in London and New York."
