Recycling economy to alleviate electricity shortage
[ 2005-04-19 08:47:49]

Beijing and Zhejiang Province are exploring new aspects of the recycling economy aimed at alleviating summer electricity shortages.

The first power station that generates electricity with natural gas is being built in Beijing and will come into operation in June.

Natural gas is used in the capital city mostly in winter to generate heat for citizens, while in summer natural gas is stored only.

"We built the power plant to generate electricity with unused natural gas. Power demands peak in July and August, and the additional electricity produced with natural gas will help alleviate the shortage," said Chen Tiecheng, an official with Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform.

Meanwhile, in east China's Zhejiang Province, some 20 million yuan or about 2.4 million US dollars have been funded this year to support the generation of electricity through recycling energy.
