"I researched several types of activity trackers, and Shine attracted me with its design. I think it is the most stylish and especially appealing for girls — I actually have not seen a man wearing it.
"Its functions are very basic and, like the others, it calculates the number of steps and monitors sleep, syncs wirelessly via bluetooth using a smart phone app. The battery lasts about five months.
"It can shift among walking, running, swimming and cycling. However, you have to use the app to change the activity mode, which is not convenient. It only works with iOS and Android mobile devices. There’s no Web app or ability to sync to a computer.
"The basic goals are set in terms of points and I use the 1,000 points target, which is the middle activity level. The 12 white LED lights will light up when I achieve the goal.
"It can be used as a watch, but I could only discern the correct time after months of wearing it because there are no hands. But the fact that it can function as a pretty cool-looking watch is a nice bonus."
