HONG KONG

New chef's savory touch

Pedro Samper has joined The Langham, Hong Kong as its new executive chef. A native of San Sebastian, Spain, Samper has more than two decades of culinary experience, including running the kitchens at Paradores de Turismo Hotels and Resorts in Valencia and earlier stints in Michelin-starred restaurants around Spain and in Tokyo. The first menu Samper is introducing in Hong Kong is a savory afternoon tea, including raspberry and rose foie gras lollipops with almonds, a refreshing Akagai clam and tuna ceviche, and 48-month-aged acorn-fed Iberico Belotta ham with daiquiri-infused melon.

BEIJING

Hotel beer fest

Breweries from at least eight cities in China will bring their brands of suds to East Hotel on Sept 25 and 26 for the second annual Beijing Autumn Craft Beer Festival. Last year's event at the hotel was well-managed with a nice range of beers and food vendors, and access this year is easier thanks to a Line 14 subway stop at Jiangtai. Look for Arrow Factory, Great Leap, Jing-A, NB and Slow Boat craft brewers from Beijing; Bad Monkey from Dali; Calvin from Hefei; Nanjing Craft from Nanjing; and Amoy Brau from Xiamen. Free admission to festival; pay for beer and food at each vendor booth.

5-10 pm, Sept 25; noon-10 pm, Sept 26. 22 Jiuxianqiao Road, Chaoyang district. 010-8426-0888.
