Chinese characters demand clear writing and clean strokes. For young students just learning to write, handling the proper pressure to put on each stroke may be a little difficult, and oftentimes papers are ripped with pencils during Chinese lessons. Many young ones use writing boards, which are placed under the paper for more solid support, to prevent this from happening.
