Book covers are perhaps something unique to China. Primary school teachers often ask students to cover up their textbooks either with clear polyester or paper-made book covers to protect the books. Frugality and appreciation of one's learning materials are stressed in schools. Many Chinese adults have memories of wrapping up their textbooks with book covers before school began when they were young.
