Wenjiang suffered from heavy rains and devastating floods on July 9, 2013, with about 16,000 meters of river levees damaged. By flood season this year, Wenjiang had completed the levee restoration, which cost 37.8 million yuan ($6.1 million).

The restoration was done based on actual needs at each stream segment. For example, restoration of the Tianxiang Road segment of Jiangan River employs oblique levee form and widens the riverbed with the width varying from 45 to 80 meters, in order to improve the flood discharge capacity. In addition, several damaged sections of Yangliu River have been redesigned and reinforced to ensure that they withstand floods.

Wenjiang has also reserved flood prevention materials, which include flood control rocks, galvanized wires, sandbags, flood control cones, emergency service vehicles, and emergency lights. With 144 flood defense teams and 14 disaster medical assistance teams totaling 3,414 staffers, Wenjiang is prepared to weather the flood season.
