Recently, many multifunctional self-service terminals have appeared in some communities in Wenjiang, Chengdu, Sichuan province.
Residents can pay different bills using the SST, including electricity, gas, water bills, property management fees, and parking fees. To complete the payments, they just need to input the bill number on the machine and insert their debit card. In addition, the SST allows residents to book air tickets, recharge public transport IC cards, make bank transfers, buy movie tickets, and do 30 other things in the communities.
Another convenience the SST brings is that it can be a package locker. It is common today that mailmen deliver packages when people are not at home, in which case the delivery cannot be successfully completed. With a package locker, mailmen can store packages in it. The recipients can take out the goods using their ID cards when they return.
It is projected that, according to Chengdu Jianyu Network Co, the instigator of the project, there will be altogether 500 sets of the SST in communities in Wenjiang. So far, the installation work in more than 20 communities has been completed.
