College graduates grow "purple potatoes" in Wenjiang

An innovation project to grow “purple potatoes” recently started in Wanchun town in Wenjiang district, Chengdu, Sichuan province.

The project was run by several college-graduate village officials in Wanchun. They planted the purple potatoes in the Joy Field in the town. According to Liu Yisheng, the inventor of the purple potato, the color purple in the newly-developed potatoes was because of the rich anthocyanin in them. The nutritive value of them, therefore, was higher than normal.

The innovation project received positive responses from its test promotion. Several venture companies were interested in its market potential. The college graduates are now discussing cooperation with various companies to enlarge the market of their unique “purple potatoes”.
