The China Ecological Civilization Forum Chengdu Annual Conference was opened on Nov 1 in Wenjiang district in the city of Chengdu, Sichuan province, aimed at highlighting new concepts, approaches and systems to combat ecological and environmental challenges.
Wei Hong, governor of Sichuan province, gave a speech at the opening ceremony, saying that the ecological civilization construction is essential for people’s well-being and for the country’s future development. It has been proved through practice that the construction requires not only resolve and responsibilities, but also scientific methods. He expected that the leading experts and scholars would draw on collective wisdom to promote the development of ecological civilization in China at the annual conference.
Jiang Chunyun, principal consultant of the Chinese Ecological Civilization Research and Promotion Association, said at the conference that ecological civilization construction is a profound social change involving many aspects including ideology, economic society, system and mechanism, policies and regulations, patterns of production and consumption, and science and technology. It demands an innovation-driven reform to remove obstacles in the way of the construction.
Chen Zongxing, vice-chairman of the 11th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference praised the ecological civilization construction in Wenjiang district at the conference. Wenjiang has based its development largely on environmentally friendly sectors such as eco-tourism, leisure sports, eco-agriculture and high-tech research and development. Wenjiang, with its idea of harmony lying between the industrial structure and the development plan of a green economy, sets a good example for ecological civilization construction in China, according to Chen.
More than 300 government officials, experts, scholars and entrepreneurs attended the annual conference.
