More than 20 residents in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province in Southwest China, learned to taste baijiu, a Chinese distilled alcoholic beverage, from a liquor expert, Zhong Jie, on Feb 8.
“Students” learned how to distinguish different odor types and judge the quality of baijiu. They were told stories and philosophy behind the Chinese liquor culture.
Zhong said that baijiu enjoys a long history and it is a cultural element. To understand it, people need to look at its color, sniff its aroma and taste its flavor, but also identify its unique style according to their own liking of the liquor.
The liquor-tasting training, initiated by a tasting team from the Sichuan Institute for Food and Drug Control, aims at letting people know more about the profound culture of liquor in China and guiding them to drink in a healthy and graceful mannerism.
