Many supermarkets, shopping malls and restaurants in Wenjiang district in Chengdu, Sichuan province, have partnered with Alipay.com, enabling customers to pay online with their smart phones.
Instead of using cash or bank cards, customers now just need to scan the final payment code with their phones to complete the transaction.
The employment of Alipay significantly improves payment efficiency in shops by cutting the time of giving change and impeding counterfeit money, according to a staffer at the Yonghui Supermarket.
Customers can also have a discount when paying with Alipay. In a dessert shop in the Zhujiang Shopping Mall, this reporter only paid 65 yuan ($9.89) for goods worth 74 yuan, using Alipay.
Alipay.com is a third-party online payment platform with no transaction fees launched by the Alibaba Group.
