Chengdu district launches culture and flower festival to lure visitors

The district of Wenjiang in Chengdu got its Seventh Golden Wenjiang Countryside Culture and Flower Tourism Festival underway on April 13.
District Head Chen Zhiyong was on hand to address attendees at the opening ceremony. He explained that the district plans to implement the "tourism plus" strategy by integrating tourism with cultural innovation, medical care and Internet connectivity.
Wenjiang is a national demonstration site of leisure agriculture and countryside tourism. It has developed exquisite flower displays, themed entertainment areas and health activities in the 160 square kilometers that it occupies.
The district's scenic spots include the Teddy Bear Museum, Ecological Garden Green Alley and Week Eighth Day Town. It also owns brands such as the May Rose Garden and the Happiness Garden.
Wenjiang received more than 14 million tourists in 2015, generating a turnover of five billion yuan ($771 million). The district has also invested 2.7 billion yuan into tourism real estate to bolster its infrastructure.
The district plans to release six tourism routes this year and put on 30 activities to give tourists access to the best spots and boost overall tourism.
