The medical maker space launched in Wenjiang’s Chengdu Medical City in June, has so far attracted 14 entrepreneur groups and five new companies as of the end of the year.
Occupying 37 hectares, 3-billion-yuan ($431 million) maker space was constructed to promote the integration of medical science, medical treatment and pharmacy industries.
“Chengdu Medical City can help enterprises with their research and development which fits our need,” said Wu Dimeng, founder of Chengdu Dexinan Innovation Medical Technology Company, which recently settled in the maker space.
According to local authorities, the maker space focuses on the research and development of inspection, gene sequencing and mobile health care. Infrastructures including a medical waste water sewage pool and special warehouses for medicines have been made available.
The maker space has also cooperated with Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), West China Medical Center of Sichuan University and Tsinghua University, as well as launching a technology service platform. In just six months, 14 innovation projects have been launched in the space. Four of the space’s research centers, such as Fengji Biology, have attracted investment of 560 million yuan.
