Half marathon to kick off in Wenjiang

Chengdu's Wenjiang district will host the 2017 Wenjiang Half Marathon on Nov 19, according to a press conference held on Sept 12.

This year's event is expected to draw more than 10,000 participants. The organizing committee plans to integrate modern elements to the race by setting the course through urban areas.

The Wenjiang district initiated the half marathon three years ago, and has since attracted about 29,959 athletes in total from 17 countries and regions.

The sports game has also become a tourism draw for the beautiful livable city. More than 200,000 tourists have paid visit to the region and brought in some 137 million yuan ($21 million).

Known as "golden" Wenjiang for its privileged natural environment and rich cultural resources, the district plans to actively develop its green industry with sports as a platform to create a better life for local residents.
