Wenjiang holds gala to welcome Double Ninth Festival

To welcome the approaching Double Ninth Festival, Chengdu's Wenjiang district held a gala on Oct 25.

The ninth day of the ninth lunar month marks the traditional Chongyang Festival, or Double Ninth Festival, which falls on Oct 28 this year.

Respecting the elders is a traditional virtue of Chinese and showing them respect on the Double Ninth Festival is a tradition, the Chinese government declared the Double Ninth Festival as Seniors' Day in 1989.

Some 400 retired people living in Wenjiang district gathered together and enjoyed the various performances, from singing and dancing to classic poem reciting.
