The Sichuan capital of Chengdu played host to the China-UAE Economic, Trade and Cultural Summit on April 1.
The summit was strategically held at the same time as the annual horse race involving the two cities, the Chengdu Dubai International Cup (CDIC) Wenjiang-Meydan Classic. Participants made in-depth discussions on topics related to horse-racing, city development and culture and trade exchanges between China and the United Arab Emirates.
Speaking at the summit, Chen Wenhua, vice-president of the Sichuan People's Political Consultative Conference, noted that Sichuan and the UAE have established a mutually beneficial relationship since the horse race started in 2014. He said that the summit was designed to help enterprises and people in the UAE know more about Sichuan and its potential business opportunities, while boosting cooperation in trade, culture and sport between the two sides.
Chen Zhiyong, head of the horse race's host district, Wenzhou, said the race had facilitated the districts’ equestrian industry.
A signing ceremony was held during the summit, allowing a chance for enterprises from the two cities to sign cooperation agreements. The ceremony was followed by a conference to facilitate one-to-one talks between enterprises.
