Yongning Overpass officially put into operation

After 19 months of construction, Yongning Overpass over the Chengdu expressway was officially put into operation on Nov 30.

Yongning Overpass is a key project in the construction of a "convenience city" in Wenjiang district, Chengdu. Its completion and operation marks a significant breakthrough in Wenjiang's urbanization construction, which ends the history of the expressways around the city not connecting with each other.

Yongning Overpass is situated over the expressway at the intersection of Qingyang district and Wenjiang district, which is 3.5 kilometers south of Wenjiang Overpass and 3.3 kilometers north of Xipu Overpass.

It has six ring roads, eight bridges, 14 culverts, one pedestrian bridge, one underpass, a toll station, a service tower and a rain water pump station, covering an area of 11.87 hectares and representing total investment of 319 million yuan ($46 million).

The service area of Yongning Overpass covers five towns in north Wenjiang as well as neighboring cities and districts. The operation of Yongning overpass will further promote the integration and development of Wenjiang district and Pidu district, the high-tech zone and Qingyang district.

Yongning Overpass is located in Yongning town, the home of Chengdu Medical City. The establishment of Yongning overpass not only brings convenience to commuters in the area, but also cuts down the logistics costs for enterprises, playing a positive role in optimizing the business environment of Chengdu Medical City.

"After the completion of Yongning overpass, we are going to build a service area in order to further improve the quality of Chengdu Medical city," said a member of Wenjiang traffic and transportation bureau.

Wenjiang carried out 80 projects with total investment of 14.1 billion yuan in 2018 to improve traffic in the city. By implementing rail transit extension, external transportation expansion, internal transportation interconnection, and public transport service upgrading, Wenjiang has built a convenient and inter-connective traffic system.
