A newly introduced code scanning system can now be used for all subway lines in Chengdu, Southwest China's Sichuan province.
By downloading the Tianfutong app, people can simply scan a code to buy subway tickets, without having to wait in line.
To assure the smooth flow of passengers during rush hours, the subway has designated two gates for people to scan codes and the rest are for transportation cards or tickets.
People can enjoy a 10 percent discount by scanning the code. Frequent users who spend from 200 yuan ($29) to 400 yuan per month can enjoy an extra 40 percent discount.
In addition to the subway, buses in downtown Chengdu and Longquanyi district also offer the code scanning feature. The Tianfutong app will begin supporting code scanning on tramways and municipal railways in the near future.
