According to data, a total of 2.02 billion yuan ($295.64 million) was made last year from flower and tree sales in Wenjiang district, Chengdu, a year-on-year increase of 3.04 percent. This figure includes 100 million yuan made from online sales.
This breakthrough in Wenjiang's flower and tree industry is a result of the integration of agriculture, entrepreneurship, tourism and health care, as well as the specialization of sales groups that promoted high quality species with the help of the internet.
Sapling sales in Wenjiang amounted to 1.41 billion yuan last year, mostly made up of sales of arbors, such as sweet osmanthus, ginkgoes, camphor trees and crape myrtles, as well as shrubs, such as glossy-leaf paper plants, Chinese fringe flowers and rhododendrons.
Bonsai sales totaled 240 million yuan, orchid sales totaled 250 million yuan, and potted flower and green plant sales reached 80 million yuan, a significant increase over last year.
Wenjiang made a total of $6.45 million in flower exports, of which $3.57 million were shipped via the China Railway Express, which transported bonsais, pussy willows and crape myrtles to the Netherlands, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, etc.
