The situation of population and employment in 2002 and prospect for 2003

Abstract:  

In 2002, the national population kept growing, the agro-population kept migrating to urban areas, the population of labor age kept increasing, the ratio of total number of dependents decreased, and the "Law of Population and Family Planning" was formally implemented. Opportunities for employment kept increasing, the number of unemployed people for laid-off workers of state-owned enterprises was reduced, the rate of unemployment was increased, the weak employment group was expanded. In 2003, the total number of population will not exceed 1292.75 million and the natural growth rate will not exceed 6.40 ‰. The newly provided job posts will be over 8 million and the registered unemployment rate both in the urban and rural areas will be between 4.4-4.5%.
