Calls on attention to pollution from intensive livestock and poultry farms

By Su Yang

Date: 2004/04/09

 Abstract:

The rapid expansion of intensive livestock and poultry farms has caused increasingly serious pollution, which becomes a threat to the environment and the health of people. Due to technical and economic reasons, this kind of pollution can be treated only by a comprehensive utilization of the waste, which is encountering a number of obstacles in China today. The following are suggestions to promote multi-purpose utilization of the waste: raise the standard and fees for waste discharge; regulate the animal farms by industrial pollution management; set up special projects on anti-pollution in selected locations; promote comprehensive utilization by means of favorable taxation, land price and credit allocation.
