Abstract:

The rural economic performance in 2002 was basically stable and this was attributable to the improved policy environment and the favorable international situation for agro-produce trade. However, given the weak demand of agro-produce and the inadequate input by the state for rural development, the situation for rural economic performance is still grave. The central government has attached high importance to the rural development in building up a well-off society. In 2003 the development environment for rural economy will be better than in 2002 and keep an overall steady growth momentum.
