The book "Positioning Determines Success: Economic Theory and Practice of China's City Positioning" tries to reveal the connotations of city positioning, proposes an economic theory of city positioning by analyzing the crucial significance of city positioning, expounds the assessment criteria of city positioning by probing into the framework for city positioning, points out the misunderstandings about city positioning, specifies the basis and supporting measures for city positioning, presents policy options for city positioning through analysis of empirical cases, and provides practical reference and guidance for city positioning at various levels.

The book comprises two parts. The first part focuses on positioning economic theory, including five chapters, which are basic concept, economic ideas, assessment, basis, and supporting measures. The second part is about eight positioning systems, including illustrations respectively on overall positioning, function positioning, industrial positioning, program positioning, space positioning, brand and image positioning, development pattern positioning, and operational mechanism positioning.

The book is written by Li Zuojun, doctoral supervisor, Ph.D. of economics, research fellow and Deputy Director-General of Research Institute of Resources and Environment Policies of the Development Research Center of the State Council.
