Myanmar will hold an international education fair in Lashio, Shan state of the country, this weekend, aimed at introducing international education to Myanmar students, education circle said on Thursday.
Sponsored by the Crown Education and Paragon Center, the two-day education fair in Lashio will last from Saturday to Sunday, the sources said.
Representatives from 20 international schools from England, Australia, the U.S., Singapore and Malaysia will take part in the fair.
The Myanmar government has been making progress in implementing its 30-year National Education Promotion Plan since 2001-2002 fiscal year and it has now reached the fourth year of its second five-year plan.
According to the education authorities, it has guaranteed that every school-age child has received good access to education and every citizen completed basic education under the plan being implemented with the cooperation of regional authorities, social organizations and parents of the students.
Official statistics show that the number of basic education schools in the country has increased to 40,679 where 8.07 million students are pursuing their education under the guidance of over 266,000 teachers.
In 2007-2008 academic year, refresher sources were launched subject wise for the high school teachers to catch up with the international level high school syllabus and since then over 24,000 teachers have been trained under the program, said the authorities.
