The Australian National University will hold a reception for its Chinese Alumni and friends in Shanghai on Oct 19 at Le Royal Meredien at 7:00 pm. Hosting the event will be the Dean and Director of the ANU College of Business and Economics Professor Jayne Godfrey.
Professor Godfrey will give a keynote address entitled: “Accounting for the world's most precious resource: creating a new business discipline.” Water is a fundamental resource for all organizations, public and private, and as the competition for water resources increases, the need to account – fully and consistently – for how water is distributed to meet economic, environmental and social needs becomes ever greater. Professor Godfrey will present the case that this is a specialist field requiring focused research and tailored education. There will be ever greater demand for experts in “water accountancy” as the pressure on water supplies around the world continues to grow.
Professor Godfrey is an internationally acknowledged expert on issues of accounting, corporate governance and education. Her research has included investigation into water accountancy both in Australia and internationally, and she currently serves on the board of the national Water Accounting Standards Board in Australia.
A cocktail reception will follow Professor Godfrey's address.
