By the end of 2008, Fujian had 96 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, putting it in fifth place in the country for number of academics.
Fujian also has 27,100 postgraduate students and 562,600 undergraduates and junior college students at 83 institutions of higher learning -- 29 universities, 50 vocational and technical colleges, and four junior colleges.
