China’s State Council gave the go-ahead to the Xiangyu Bonded Area of Xiamen to begin trials on a bonded logistics zone with a sea port, on Aug 16, 2004, for a 0.7-sq-km area, between the Xiangyu Bonded Area and the Dongdu Port.

Phase I of the project covered a 0.3-sq-km space and began operating in March 2006.The logistics zone is part of a Xiamen plan to use its advantages and develop the zone into a free trade area. Favorable zone policies cover imports and exports, storage, taxes, foreign currency transactions, and processing. Its main industries are modern logistics, international trade, and new high-tech processing.
