With severe smog continuing to shroud multiple regions of eastern China, some people are choosing to travel in an effort to escape the pollution.
Meteorological observatories have reminded people to reduce outdoor activities and keep windows shut as the haze that has shrouded some cities for more than 10 days will likely linger into the weekend.
Meteorologists say winds will soon blow away some of the pollutants, but some people can’t wait.
Travel agencies are very busy recently due to the amount of people choosing to travel to escape the haze. Southern destinations, including Xiamen, have become very popular. With its great air quality and warm winter climate, Xiamen ranks second among the top 10 greatest places to escape city smog in China, according to an online travel portal.
According to reports, Xiamen has received an increasing number of Beijing tourists and the number of visitors from Tianjin has even doubled. Many travel agencies are also now launching various tour packages that emphasize the great air quality without increased prices, in order to lure travelers.
