A delegation made up of more than 40 presenters from the country’s 33 most influential media outlets went on a Fresh Fujian eco tour campaign, visiting the city of Quanzhou, in Fujian province, on June 8, and interviewed Deputy Mayor Lin Boqian.

Lin said the local economy is growing rapidly in recent years, and at the same time, the government places emphasis on ecological development to improve the local living environment. Early in February 2003, the city issued the Ecological City Construction Planning to guide green economy development

According to Lin, environment protection plays a vital role in the local Beautiful Countryside Campaign. To date, Quanzhou government has built 164 rural sewage treatment plants, 245 garbage transfer stations, and rehabilitated the wetlands ecosystem.

Lin added that the government will continue to raise public environmental awareness and promote local eco-tourism.
