A total of 137 townships in Fujian province made the list of National Ecological Townships released recently by the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

The ministry conferred the title on 829 townships across the country. Fujian had the largest number, followed by Zhejiang (131), Jiangsu (102), Sichuan (75), Shandong (68), Hunan (64), Heilongjiang (47), Gansu (39) and Anhui (38).

The criteria for ecological town include drinking water quality, surface water quality, air quality, acoustic environment quality and sewage treatment rate.
