The typhoon, the 16th one this year, made landfall in Zhejiang province, which is north of Fujian, on Monday morning.
Winds started to affect Pingtan from Sept 18, growing more powerful since Sept 11 and reaching force 12 (about 35 meters per second). But the winds will weaken late Monday, according to the local meteorological bureau.
Compared with the strong wind, the rain has been pleasantly gentle, as moderate precipitation fell on most of Pingtan over the weekend, which helped alleviate the recent drought.
The typhoon also brought down the average temperature by four degrees Celsius. The heat will not return until Wednesday, said the bureau.
