Fujian province in East China has intensified its clampdown on extravagance and waste among government departments this year, according to Xiamen Daily on Oct 8.
In two rounds of crackdowns this year, Fujian suspended the use of 2,053 government vehicles which weren’t purchased through formal procedures, said the newspaper.
A total of 1,725 freeloaders in local government departments, namely those who assumed job titles but did not work in their respective posts, were sacked.
A raft of housing projects for government office purposes, which took up nearly 700,000 square meters, were deemed unnecessary and cancelled.
More than 360 government employees and officials were found engaged in gift-giving, banquets or overspending using public funds.
To promote frugality in public places, altogether 13 private clubs hidden in historical buildings, and luxury restaurants inside parks, were suspended from business, said the newspaper.
