The Secretary of Fujian Party Committee – You Quan – has called for more efforts in accelerating the opening and exploration of the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone.
Pingtan has been designated as the first and only experimental zone open to Taiwan on the Chinese mainland in a bid to increase cross-Straits communications. It was the first stop of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Fujian on November 1 and 2.
Xi inspected a few of Pingtan’s engineering projects, met with Taiwanese entrepreneurs and greeted travelers at a marine passenger terminal. He was satisfied with Pingtan’s infrastructure achievements and said he wished Pingtan would play a bigger role in cross-Straits relations.
Xi’s visit to Fujian and its residents showed his care for the people and support of the province’s work, which will vitalize Fujian’s development, said You Quan at a conference on Nov 3.
The provincial Party Committee and all departments of the Government must study Xi’s speeches and instructions he made during his Fujian visit, and adopt the gist in their daily work, he added.
Fujian should strengthen its competitive industries and boost rural development, promote innovation and deepen reforms in various sectors, while paying attention to the ecological environment, improve people’s livelihoods and wipe out corruption within the Party, said You.
