The “Blue coast defense” naval port open day, which appeared in the World Ocean Week for the first time, provided a chance for people to better know about naval life and called for more attention on coast defenses.

The navy ships, cultural rooms, achievement exhibition rooms, activity rooms and military band were all shown off during the open day. Four types of naval ships, including a warship, police vessel, defense vessel and monitoring vessel, were on display and interpreters explained to the visitors the vessels’ structures, performances and functions.

Naval dormitories, a library and activity rooms linked the public closer to navy life, and the navy achievement exhibition rooms presented the navy’s history and development.

The navy military band, which used to give performances only on special festivals, such as Army Day (August 1), performed for the visitors on the open day.

A series of “Blue Coast Defense” knowledge activities were also held during the week. Xiamen Municipal Library displayed books and documents of marine history from Nov 7-14.
