A middle school teacher in Fuzhou rose to fame for his obsession with blood donation, Southeast Express reported on Dec 5.
Chen Li, 26, a teacher at the Fuzhou No.3 Middle School, has contributed 154,000 mm of blood in 107 sessions since 2007. The volume equals 38 times that of his blood in his entire body.
He donated blood for the first time in 2007 when he was still a sophomore in college, and has just kept it a habit ever since.
Chen said the main reason for this habit is because he wanted to save those in dire need of blood.
“We come across news of car crashes all the time. Some of them lose their lives due to a blood shortage. And I feel so sorry for them. The blood can regenerate, but life can’t,” said Chen.
Now he donates blood platelets twice every month. One donation of blood platelets is equal to 1,600 mm of blood under Chinese law.
