Merchants at a big flower market in Fuzhou are promoting a clearance sale, as the market will be closed down for good on Dec 30.

The Aofeng Flower and Bird Market on Aofeng Road, Taijiang district has been in existence there for a decade with 400 stores. Authorities decided earlier this year to relocate it to another market in Cangshan district which more than doubles the current capacity.

The merchants therefore scaled down the prices of many products to cut the costs of their removal.

A pet dog, which was valued at more than 100 yuan ($16), was sold for 20 yuan after an easy negotiation, as the Strait News reported.

Another merchant told the newspaper that his plants are now about one third of their previous prices.

The big sale triggered a large customer flow over the weekend, with people snapping up the desirable items and even picking up those items dumped by the merchants.

“I visited the markets for several days in a row, just buying some cheap and small plants and fishes for my son,” said Ms. Lin.
