Jinjiang - Nine civilians were injured in a knife attack on a street in Jinjiang city, East China's Fujian province, Strait News reported on Jan 8.
The knife-wielding attacker, alleged to have come from Hubei province, stabbed a woman at 9:22 pm, and then attacked eight random passers-by in 10 minutes.
The attacker was caught by special armed police officers, local residents and security guards after the incident occurred.
According to police, the nine injured, including one who is in critical condition, had been sent to local hospitals. Four of them are currently hospitalized for further treatment, while four with minor injuries were discharged after being bandaged up.
“I saw a girl, aged about 27 or 28, with 2 wounds on her right cheek. The wounds were bleeding and her top was soaked with blood,” said Yang Xiuquan, a motorbike driver who witnessed the attack.
The attacker, surnamed Tan, is suspected of being in a deep state of mental psychosis. He is currently being detained and interrogated by the Jinjiang police.
